Why Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is for everyone. But what is it? The psychologist Jon Kabat-Zinn has described mindfulness as “nonjudgmental awareness of the present moment.” Learning to respond wisely to things that happen to you, rather than just acting blindly, often out of anger, worry, or fear. It’s one of the single most powerful things we can do for our well-being.
This is Thinky Dinky
A lot of people wonder who the character of Thinky Dinky is based on… A few of my daughter’s friends were pretty convinced that it was her because she likes cats, building things, and the swimming story is a true story based on real events in her life. But really, Thinky Dinky is more based on myself.
My daughter is actually much more confident and self-assured than I have ever been. There have been many other people that have inspired the content and the direction of this book as well.
There are kids that I know who have struggled with anxiety from the time they were in kindergarten. There are grownups in my life who have inspired me as well, both students and friends.
I share tools in Thinky Dinky that are helpful to me in stressful moments in my life. I hope they help you and your little ones too.

I teach elementary school orchestra in a small town in New York’s Hudson Valley. I learned a lot about mindfulness from my years as a student and teacher of yoga, with students of all ages, from preschool age to seniors in their 90s. I created Thinky Dinky to share those mindfulness lessons with others and hopefully help some kids along the way. Thanks for checking out Thinky Dinky!
